What happens when you put 16 kids and 3 counselors in the wilderness? No, this isn’t a start of a bad joke, it’s the start to a great week of camp, all orchestrated by our good good God!

Ready, Aim, FIRE: Highlander Archery

A small moment I won’t forget was pool time on Tuesday. It was slightly drizzling when we got in, but within moments, God opened the flood gates and it was a complete downpour! Instead of complaining about the rain the kids had an insane amount of fun! Climbing on floaties, a fun game a basketball (with the counselors), and I even saw a few campers dancing in the shallow end.

We have played water basketball, water polo, covered ourselves with shaving cream and sunscreen, ridden horses, learned to work together as a team, prayed together, and have sung loud, soft, fast, and slow. We have danced frequently, laughed until we cried, and bonded as a group. One special activity was making rice crispy treats over the fire the first night in our new home. Everything tastes better after being made over a fire! We are looking forward to archery, the challenge course, Ga-Ga ball, more rapping, and time spent together as we see God at work in our lives.

We made our own ice cream…because we are all scientists, we may have accidentally made an ice cream volcano...and then let it explode!

Week 9: Hydro Camp

Our group has bonded really quickly and it's so much fun to see how our campers take care of each other and include each other. This week, we have been learning about how God created each one of us for a purpose, and how much God loves each one of us.

Week 7: Highlander Legends

This week has been full of questions, creativity and Disney sing-offs already. They enjoy brainteasers and riddles and challenging each other. I can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings--they are so fun and full of energy it's going to be an adventure! God is good!

Week 5: Camper VS. Wild

Between meals, activities, and Vespers, your camper is singing camp songs and stopping for “God appreciation moments”. Be sure to ask what their favorite song was!

Week 4: Highlanders on a Mission

Have you ever planted a seed and then watched it grow? The long slow wait seems to take forever. Spending a week at Heartland Camp is like watching that seed grow and bloom in a fast forward time lapse.
This week Legends camp began with 33 nervous people and has grown into a family of friends living together, learning from one another, sharing, praying, eating, playing, and taking care of one another. The get to know you games from Sunday night turned into Monday's hair braiding and stick sword fights which led to splash prayers in the pool and laughter around the campfire. The groups supported one another while each person challenged themselves on the rock wall. One camper tried the most difficult path while another summoned all her courage to approach the wall and step up on the very first rock and both were surrounded by their new friends' encouragement.
